Muhimbili to collaborate with China to improve transplant services

The leadership of the Muhimbili National Hospital has met with a delegation from Shandong Province in China and discussed how to collaborate to continue improving specialist and emergency services while building the capacity of professionals.

The message has been led by the Chief Health Leader of Shandong Province Mrs. Ma Lixin has visited various places to provide services including the Department of Emergency Diseases for children and the ward of patients who need special attention (ICU).

Speaking on behalf of the Executive Director of MNH, Acting Executive Director Dr. Julieth Magandi has said that currently MNH wants to collaborate in the areas of ICU, emergency diseases, organ transplantation including liver, kidney and kidney.

“We are already doing kidney transplants, so far we have transplanted kidneys in 88 patients, of which 81 have been transplanted in Muhimbili Upanga and 7 others have been transplanted in Muhimbili Mloganzila. However, in terms of kidney transplants, we need to build capacity in larger surgeries because we do normal transplants” said Dr. Magandi.

“The Government of Tanzania led by the Honorable President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has made a large investment in the health sector from the grassroots level to the nation by installing modern medical equipment, for example here in Muhimbili we have modern diagnostic and treatment equipment including MRI, Angio Suite, Digital X-Ray and CT-Scan along with many others, all of this is to ensure that professional and comprehensive services are available here in the country,” explained Dr. Magandi

And the Acting Assistant Director of Natural Medicine and a representative from the Ministry of Health Dr. Vumilia Luggyle has said
Tanzania has made progress in medical tourism where it serves people from various countries in Africa including Zambia, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Uganda so it is important for these two countries to cooperate.

For his part, the Chief Leader of the Health Sector of Shandong Province Ms. Ma Lixin is pleased with the way Muhimbili has made strides in the provision of health services, especially specialist and obstetrics and promised to cooperate to continue to bring positive results in the health sector.
