The Regional Commissioner of Dar es Salaam, Albert Chalamila has instructed the city of Dar es Alaam to increase the speed of revenue collection.
Chalamila gave the order yesterday in a special session to evaluate the collection of income in the city for the quarter of the financial year 2023/2024. The meeting was held at the Arnatoglo Mnazimmoja hall and was attended by District heads, Directors, TRA officials and the Regional Secretariat led by the Regional Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Mercy Madenge.
Chalamila at the meeting, had the opportunity to listen to the actual estimates of income for all Councils and the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) and asked them to increase the speed and creativity of new tools in revenue collection, control spending and provide education to the community about the importance of paying taxes.
“Each council should plan to collect more than the estimates they set for themselves for the year, for example the city’s estimate was 89 billion but there is a high possibility of collecting more than 120 billion if the strength and creativity will increase more” He said
Similarly, Chalamila has said that the income assessment sessions from now on will be held regularly and a special schedule for those sessions will be provided by the Regional Administrative Secretary.
He has said that revenue collections should go hand in hand with the completion of development projects. It is a shame for this region, where everything is there, it fails to complete development projects.
Administrative Secretary of the Region, Ms. Rehema Madenge has congratulated the Council for reaching a quarter of their goals and ordered them to increase their strength and effort so that they can reach the goals they have set for themselves.
