The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) – Tanzania has asked the media in the country to provide equal opportunities by including people with disabilities and women in providing information.
Head of Communication and Information of UNESC0 -Tanzania, Mrs. Nancy Angulo made the call yesterday when she visited the offices of the media organization MAIPAC in Arusha.
MAIPAC is a sister institution to Serengeti Media with headquarters in the district. Serengeti, which institutions, have all had several social projects.
Mrs. Angulo said the media should always provide opportunities for all groups in society to raise their voices in various aspects of development.
“We ask that in your work you do not discriminate or isolate people with disabilities and women because often their voices are not heard. He is pleased with the way MAIPAC uses the media to implement its projects”, said Bibi. ‘Angulo
However, Mrs. Angulo praised MAIPAC for doing a good job helping the marginal communities through the media. Mrs. Angulo said MAIPAC is the only journalists’ organization in the country that works with marginalized communities directly.
“I congratulate MAIPAC, you are doing a good job and continue to work with social radio and journalists to help the community”, Bibi. Angulo said
MAIPAC should also help educate against incidents of violence against the disabled, women and children in the community.
“In the run-up to the general election, it is good in your work to consider the opinions of all groups of society, including people with disabilities and women,” She said, Mrs. ‘Angulo
The executive director of MAIPAC, Mr. Mussa Juma and MAIPAC Administration Manager, Mr. Andrea Ngobole asked UNESCO to cooperate with MAIPAC in several of its projects in the country.
Mr. Juma thanked UNESCO for inviting MAIPAC executives to training on gender issues and advocacy and participation of people with disabilities, women and children which involved social media radio and the Department of Information (MAELEZO).
