The chairman of Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA) Freeman Aikael Mbowe has asked former member of the party Peter Msigwa who moved to Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) to pay him compensation of 5 billion Tanzanian shillings (5,000,000,000/=) as compensation for defaming him politically.
The demand notice issued by lawyers from Matwiga Law Chambers said Msigwa should pay Mbowe that amount of money for speaking false information against him and defaming him, including damaging Mbowe’s image politically, religiously, as a friend and as a family member.
The statement, which came out on September 4, 2024, said that while Msigwa was speaking on the question and answer session of the Clubhouse network in the National Chamber, Kwanza Hajji305 said “Hon. Mbowe has the Mbowe Foundation, that’s not a secret he has and that Mbowe Foundation is actually running the party and right now, as I said, I absolutely insist…it’s impossible…the chairman should have a helicopter and travel with a fleet of more than ten cars”.
The statement asked Msigwa to apologize to Mbowe within five working days from the day the statement was issued, and also to apologize through the front page of two newspapers (one national and the other regional) and in the apology to apologize to the whole community (mentioning his (Mbowe) full names) also admitting that he will not abuse his social position again.
By emphasizing they have written that “under these conditions we need you to pay our client a total of five billion Tanzanian shillings (5,000,000,000/=) as a special punishment for damaging the image of our client”.
