[Dar es Salaam] DEPUTY Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko has asked the Tanzania Electricity Corporation (TANESCO) to use the opportunity of the presence of sufficient electricity in this period to repair various machines that could not be repaired during the period when the country did not have enough electricity.

Dr. Biteko has said this, this week in Dar es Salaam when he visited the power stations of Ubungo I, Ubungo II, Ubungo III as well as the grid control center ie ‘Grid Control Centre’.

Dr. Biteko has asked TANESCO to ensure that the maintenance of electrical infrastructure is sustainable so that Tanzanians can have reliable electricity.

“I really thank the President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for his great inspiration in the Energy Sector and we as a Ministry through Tanesco will continue to ensure that Tanzanians get reliable electricity,” said Dr. Biteko.

He said that there is currently a surplus of electricity and that is why repairs can be done on the plants in Kidatu, Kihansi and Mtera stations and soon TANESCO will complete repairs on the lines in the Northern Regions to strengthen the availability of electricity where he thanked the people of those regions for their patience them throughout the maintenance period.

He stressed that the current situation of electricity availability is satisfactory, especially considering that the Julius Nyerere hydroelectric dam project is progressing well and three machines have already been connected to the national grid and the fourth machine is expected to be installed this month and that already three machines of the project of Rusumo are working.

On his part, the Director of System Control, Engineer Deogratius Mariwa has said that TANESCO is currently making improvements to its Grid system to keep pace with current needs by building 5 regional centers to control the grid systems along with additional centers that will help during power outages. electricity.

He said that the current plans are to add about 20 stations in a period of 3 years in parallel with connecting the grid systems with the countries of Kenya, Uganda, Zambia and later Mozambique in order to improve the electricity access systems.

He said that the stations will be built in the regions of Arusha, Mwanza, Dar es Salaam, Mbeya and Dodoma where they are currently in the process of finding a contractor and added that there are currently a total of 67 grid stations.

The visit was attended by the Secretary General Ministry of Energy, Engineer Felchesmi Mramba, Deputy Secretary General Ministry of Energy, Dr. James Mataragio with TANESCO Management.
