Defective IDs will be reprinted free of charge

**19 million IDs have already been taken **The government provided 42.5 billion shillings to increase the capacity of NIDA

The National Identification Authority (NIDA) has asked the government officials of the county, streets, villages, townships and shehia on the part of Zanzibar, to collect some defective identification cards and return them to our NIDA offices in the district so that they can be reprinted at no cost to the citizen. .

Director of the Identification Department from NIDA, Mr. Edson Guyai at the beginning of this week gave an explanation about the existence of some identification cards with a defect of erasing the text and due to that defect there has been a great distortion about the quality of National identification cards.

He said that the IDs issued by NIDA have a quality that meets international standards, the defect of some IDs is to erase the text, experts are continuing to investigate the problem.

“We have received information about the presence of a few identity cards that have been erased, information printed on the front or back of the identity card such as names or ID number or date of birth can be erased. Our experts are working on the issue”, said Mr. Guyai.

He said that in order to make sure that more citizens get identification cards in time, the sixth phase government released 42.5 billion shillings for the purchase of some equipment.

He explained that after being empowered, NIDA planned and implemented a strategy for mass production of identification cards “Mass Production” which went hand in hand with the distribution and distribution of identification cards to the public “Mass Distribution and Mass Issue”.

He said that they have now produced the IDs of all the people who had a special number “NIN” for a long time and sent them to the office they prayed for but surprisingly there are still many IDs that have not been taken so he has asked the citizens to go and collect their IDs.

A total of 21 million identification cards for qualified people have been produced and sent to the local, village, ward, and Shehia levels, 19 million identification cards have already been taken.
