The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has inaugurated by laying the foundation stone VETA college, located in Kashai village, Momoka ward, Sumbawanga district in Rukwa region which is 90 percent complete.
Speaking to the citizens who attended the event after laying the foundation stone, President Samia said that currently the Rukwa region is growing economically, especially in the area of ​​various development projects, so it is time for the youth and society in general to get a college to enable them to acquire skills, expertise and knowledge so that they can keep up with the pace of economic change.
“This college is the Government’s effort to ensure that our youth and society are prepared and given education and skills that will help them become independent and self-employed”, stressed President Samia
Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Adolf Mkenda has thanked the Government for continuing to put emphasis on the construction of VETA colleges across the country and to ensure that the great work given to them to ensure that Tanzanians get vocational training.
Giving a brief information on the construction of the college, the Director General of VETA, CPA Anthony Kasore said that the construction of the college has reached 90% and has cost 6,088,085,195.15 billion shillings, with a total of 24 buildings which include 1 administration building, staff houses 3, 8 Garages, 1 General Classes Building, 1 guard cabin, 1 Generator House, 1 Kitchen and Dining Hall, 1 Library, 4 Dormitories and 1 Laboratory.
CPA Kasore added that the college began to provide formal training on March 18, 2024 to 63 students of two long-term training fields of domestic electricity with 49 students and textile design, tailoring and clothing technology with 14 students.
“In addition to these two long-term courses that we have already started to offer, we expect to add another 7 courses in masonry, forging and metal fabrication, automotive engineering, computer literacy and use, cooking, carpentry and food processing by January 2025”, added CPA Defect
Happiness Florence, a local electrical student, has thanked President Samia and his Government for building and laying the foundation stone of the college and expressed his opinion to his young colleagues to go to the college there to enjoy and get the training opportunities offered.
