The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu July 13, 2024 has conducted an inspection of the Inyonga electricity receiving, cooling and transporting facility, Mlele district, Katavi region and witnessed the progress of the project which is 97 percent complete.
Hon. Dr. Samia has said that immediately after the completion of the project in September 2024, the Katavi region will be officially included in the National Grid and thus abandon the production of electricity by generators that produce electricity with diesel fuel.
“We are going to turn off oil generators, we are going to put Katavi in the National Grid, and we will save 2.2 billion shillings to buy diesel fuel every month”, she said
Dr. Samia has said that the Government has spent an amount of 164 billion shillings, which involves the construction of electricity transmission and cooling stations in Ipole, Inyonga and Mpanda as well as the construction of the electricity transmission line from Tabora to Katavi.
In another step, She said that after the Katavi Region enters the National Grid, Katavi will have reliable electricity and therefore he has asked the citizens to use electricity for economic prosperity, because electricity is not only a service but a business.
“Electricity is not only a service but also a business because it is an opportunity for you to start various businesses using this Electricity, Investment will grow here because of Electricity” said Dr. Samia
At the same time, Dr. Samia has asked the people to protect and take care of the electricity projects by realizing that they are projects that are implemented at high cost and are beneficial for every Tanzanian.
The Director of Tanzania Electricity Agency TANESCO Engineer Gissima Nyamo-hanga has said that the two regions, Katavi and Kigoma will all be connected to the National Grid where Kigoma will be connected through the electricity transmission and cooling station from Tabora station to Nguruka and Kidahwe, and Katavi will be connected from the transporter and cooling station of Ipole to Inonga and deliver to Mpanda station.
He added by saying that the Organization has been directed to have a Grid for the region, where various regions will be connected to the regional Grid and sent directly to the National Grid in Ubungo, Dar es Salaam to avoid the effects of the entire country going dark when a fault occurs in the Grid.
